Office Changes
Hi, everyone! I hope that you're having a great weekend!
I've been changing things around in our office, so I thought I'd give you a peek today.
(Disclaimer: It's really hard to get good pics in this room because of the funky light situation!)
The last time you saw our office was in this post where I had added some bluish green tones.
I enjoyed it for awhile, then decided to go back to a more neutral palette in here.
Since I spend a lot of time in here blogging and on Pinterest, etc., I wanted it to reflect my style a little more. I'm going for a farmhouse vibe.
I started by switching up the top of the dresser that's in here. This piece is great storage for a lot of my decor mags!
You may remember that I had this heavy lavabo (French sink) filled with dried lavender in our bedroom (here.) I thought it would look pretty on this dresser in the office, so I brought it downstairs when Keith wasn't home...I could BARELY lift this thing-I think it weighs as much as I do-but I was impatient and wanted it moved NOW!
Lo and behold, a couple of days later I bent over to put my socks on and my back went out! I was in bed last weekend for 2 days. The things that we do for our decor! (But that's a story for another post :)
I added some other fun things to create the vignette including a chippy shutter, a pile of grain sacks on an ornate metal tray, a little blingy pumpkin, an architectural candle holder, and a wooden 'disk' I was told was somehow used at a railroad crossing.
I have the leather chair on one side of the dresser...
...and I brought in the slipcovered chair from the sunroom (here) and put it on the other side...
I just rediscovered this vintage needlepoint rug that was 'forgotten' in our basement. I actually put it in a garage sale that my parents had last weekend but when it didn't sell (and I only had $10 on it!) I thought about trying it in here.
Now I'm glad that it didn't sell! I like the soft color and texture that it adds.
Next the real fun began...styling all of the built-in shelves!
Today I'll just show you the shelves behind the slipcovered chair.
I collected lots of favorite things...
...and went to town! What? You didn't actually expect books to be here, did you-lol!
(Actually, there are magazines in holders on the upper shelf ;)
I'll show you more of the office next time...
Thanks so much for stopping by! Enjoy your day :)
I'm sharing this at: thoughts from alice
Oh my, what a beautiful feeling here...I have alway wanted a French wall sink, and for the many I have come across in my past finds I so regret not grabbing one of them up.
ReplyDeleteMy love signs leans on one on the cover of Fifi's new Prairie Style Weddings book... It so will remind me to keep looking again for one.
As for the book case I am taken with all the treasures displayed. The room is a perfect space to sit in, taking in all it inspires.
Xx

You always collect the neatest things.....I so love this junk world of decorating!! I just can't enough. Beautiful...
ReplyDeletesigh... just plain gorgeous! xo
ReplyDeleteYour office space is very pretty. That is my favourite mix -leather with lots of white, painted pieces and wood. You do it so well.
ReplyDeleteSusan,
ReplyDeleteA office that speaks of time worn patina that through your eyes and creativeness appears modern and farmhouse fresh. Oh Susan ... Your back! August '13 I messed up my lower back for 8 weeks, your injury has a much more interesting story attached. Mine was topping off my cats litter boxes with Arm and Hammer sand litter box of 40 pounds. But - wait there was a bonus of an extra 3 pounds! Some bonus and I blame my injury on those extra 3 pounds. Mend and repair your back, I found laying flat on my back and bending my legs up the knees relieved some pressure.
Take care!
xo,
Vera
You have created pretty and cozy place to relax and create.
ReplyDeleteTake care of that back and stop lifting things that are to heavy! I have issues with my lower back and I am sure a lot of it caused by lifting and doing things for years when should have asked for help.
It looks beautiful and calming in there, great job! I love seeing your collectibles on the shelves (and wow, built in shelves, my idea of heaven!) I can never see shelves without feeling the need to fill them with books (I have way too many books) but I've got to try it your way because I love the idea of displaying pretty things that reflect my style. Thanks for sharing, can't wait to see more!

ReplyDeleteSusan, I have soft blues and greens in my bed and bath and I'm ready for a more neutral pallet too. I love what you've done in your office! I can't believe that rug didn't sell. It's really pretty. You did a great job on the shelves too! I love your farmhouse style!
ReplyDeleteI do remember those round number plaques at RR crossings. Your aches and pains paid off - beautiful styling.
ReplyDeleteWhat a warm and cozy feeling you get when you see the room. I so want that french sink...it's just, too beautiful. Like you I like to change things up...a lot. Hubs says our furniture doesn't stay in a spot longer than 3 months..and he's right. How boring would that be? You did a great job, but then you always do!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to read that you hurt your back moving that 'sink' thingy! It is true tho, when we get an idea to change things around, we usually want it done now, while the mood is right! Hope you are feeling better. I love your book case style - such cute collections of well loved pieces!! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI like how the rug makes the office more "cozy". Glad you could use it in this room

ReplyDeleteI love your office, come decorate mine please. Mine looks like a bomb went off in it and it's my least favorite room in the house. I want mine to be pretty like yours :)

First of all, I love your new blog banner, Susan! And your room is looking wonderful with the changes you've made. I like the rusty and natural elements against the white shelving. And when you said you moved that heavy piece all by yourself, I knew what was coming because I've done it a few times myself!
ReplyDeleteEvening Susan, A great look indeed!! I swoon over that French all sink~~~the rug you didn't sell was meant to be....it looks too sweet with a hint of color. I think it's perfect in that room! I like that the room is very cozy too~~~~(you and Kris must be in the office re-do moods! lol!) Blessings~~~Roxie
