Spotlight: REAL LIFE BEHIND THE BLOGGER
Hi, everyone! Myself and (Kris) Junk Chic Cottage wanted to do a regular feature on our blogs, something unique that hasn't been done before. So we came up with an idea to 'spotlight the real life behind the blogger' in a more personal way.
There
is so much talent and inspiration in blogland, and we thought it would
be fun to bring you a closer look at the person behind the blog.
Every
week on Saturday we will spotlight a blogger and have them tell us a
little bit about themselves and their blogs. You will be able to see
and read about each of the bloggers on both Kris's and my blog.
I 'met' Jill from Sew a Fine Seam shortly after I started blogging. She's always been so sweet and supportive of my blog, and I love her blog and her style. (And as fellow Ohioans hopefully we'll meet in person someday :) But what I especially admire is her talent as a seamstress-this girl can SEW!!
If you haven't yet met her, I'm happy to introduce you to Jill. So sit back, relax, and enjoy getting to know her a little better, then hop over to Kris's blog to read more about Lynn from Shabby Story!

It's always fun when blog friends want to feature you! So of course I said
yes when Susan asked me to share about myself on her blog. I love Susan
and her blog, she is one of the sweetest bloggers around and her style
is great - I'm always wanting to go shop her house :)
My name is Jill Flory and I sew. A lot. Thus the name 'Sew a Fine Seam' for my blog. But sewing isn't all I do! I design a lot of the stuff I make, I paint furniture, I decorate my home, I dream, I home school my girls, I'm doing my best to add 'photographer' to my resume, and I try to keep up with all the things that go along with being a wife and Mother.
I married my wonderful hubby 16 years ago this September. We met on December 28th, 1996. 28 days later Travis asked me to marry him. We announced it to our families and friends in March, my sister's wedding was in May, and ours in September. Whirlwind year, and I've never regretted it! And by now I totally get what people mean when they say marriage only gets better as you get older. You truly become one in heart, soul, and spirit as the years go by. By the Grace of God we are closer each day and more in love all the time. It's not always easy but it is so worth the effort! ( side note - we purchased wedding rings only about 3 years ago! We grew up in a church denomination that did not allow jewelry. When we chose to leave that fellowship, wedding rings was on my list of wants. I love the symbolism of the ring, and the witness that we are committed to each other.)
We were blessed with 3 girls - Emma, Larke, and Becca. In my early blogging days I affectionately called them 'Big Sister', 'Middle Sister', and 'Little Sister'. 'Big Sister's' blog name changed to 'The Teenager' when she turned 13 and now I generally just refer to them by their given names. Larke turns 10 in just a few days and is planning an owl themed birthday party.
I started blogging 5 years ago as a hobby. A year and a half ago I moved to Wordpress and my blog began to morph into a DIY blog. We have been DIYer's since the very beginning 16 years ago. We have been working on remodeling and updating our home ever since Travis purchased it in May before we were married in September. It's still a work in progress - do you ever really get done??
I started taking piano lessons a year ago - in my spare time :D
My newest passion is photography. Well, it's not really new, I've always liked using a camera, but in the past year it's gone to a whole new level. I purchased a dslr, learned to shoot in manual, began the editing learning curve, and a whole new world opened up! I've been privileged to help shoot some weddings and I'm loving it! I'm headed to VA in a couple weeks to help with another one!
Wedding sewing is one of my favorites. I have lost count of the number of bridesmaid and flower girl dresses I have made or altered. The first bridal gown I helped with was for my husband's niece. I have made 2 bridal gowns on my own and have one to make for a December wedding. I love making them!
Miss Mustard Seed's milk paint is fast becoming my favorite. This dresser was my first big project using it. I used it on a couple smaller projects before this and have since used it on a bed.
Annie Sloan Chalk Paint is the other paint I use. I have used this a LOT and love the ease of use, the 'no-prep' feature, the smoothness when sanded, and the low VOC which allows me to paint inside the house whenever the mood strikes. MMSMP has all these features too but does have to be mixed up as it comes in a powder form.
I love white. In my decor and outside in my flowers. My home continues to have more and more white and neutrals added to it.
I love to go garage sale-ing, thrifting, flea marketing, anywhere I can find cool stuff for good prices!
I contribute to the digital magazine, Celebrating Everyday Life' and I'm enjoying the opportunity and the challenge.
Most
of all I love my Lord, God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit
- Three in One. I want my life and everything I do to praise Him and
shine the light of His Love to everyone around me.
Thanks again Susan, for asking me to share with your readers! God bless!
