A Lavabo, a Door, and Angel Wings

Hi, everyone!  I've been tweaking our master bedroom and thought I'd show you a restyled corner.

I've always loved these pretty European 'sinks' but didn't really know what they were.  Their official title is lavabo (fancy!) and a quick web search produced this definition:

lavabo (ləˈveɪbəʊ)

n, pl -boes or -bos

1. (Ecclesiastical Terms)

a. the ritual washing of the celebrant's hands after the offertory at Mass

b. (as modifier): lavabo basin; lavabo towel.

2. (Furniture) another name for washbasin

3. (Roman Catholic Church) a trough for washing in a convent or monastery

Interesting!

I came across this one while out of town at least 6 months ago and was smitten.  I've always wanted one, so I splurged a bit and treated myself. 

But this baby is SOO heavy and I wasn't sure where I wanted to hang it, so it's been sitting on the floor neglected.

When I was messing around with the top of this vintage dresser beside our bed, I got the idea to lean it on top.  (Keith wasn't home and I could barely lift the thing!)

I filled it with dried lavender to really make it pop, and I love the results! (Plus it smells so good :)

Next I leaned a stenciled door beside it to add some height.

I've had this door hung in a few different places and it's still one of my favorite finds!

I placed a chippy metal tray in front of the door and stacked some grain sacks on it.

I like the soft texture that they add.

I've had this lamp for many many years, and you'll never guess where I got it!  Walmart, of all places!  It looks a lot like one that I admired in the Pottery Barn catalog back then, for a fraction of the price.

The lamp was already on the dresser and I left it there. (As I read in bed every single night, a bedside lamp is essential!)

 I like to throw in a little 'bling' sometimes to contrast with the 'rustic.'

I've had these fun glittery angel wings for awhile and hadn't settled on a place to hang them.  

I thought that they'd be a pretty addition to the wall adjacent to the dresser...more bling!

They're so sparkly when the sun hits them!

The last thing I did was place this little bench under the window.

I put an old wooden box on the bottom shelf...

...and topped it with a vintage wire basket filled with a couple of pillows.

And that's my 'new' bedroom corner!

Today I'd like to introduce you to my guest, Leelee from Paper Bag Styling!  Leelee is a relatively new blogger, so please show her some love! :)  She has a fun style, and is an amazing photographer. Please sit back and enjoy getting to know her better!


Hi everyone!  I'm so glad to be here and so honored to share with you today, on  Spotlight Saturday! Thank you so much Susan for inviting me!!  I'm so glad you were one of the first people I met in my blogging adventure! So where to begin......

My name is Leelee and I have a blog called Paper Bag Styling.  I came up with the name because I love to style my home, other people's homes, wardrobes and all spaces in general.  What I don't like is spending a bunch of money doing it.  I like to call it a "paper bag" budget.  I go to thrift stores, auctions, estate sales and I look for amazing deals and sales! I personally think you can get a much more personal and interesting space this way....no cookie cutter spaces for me! 

I hate this picture of me but I love it of the boys....I'll take one for the team. LOL

I am a mom to two teenage boys, one of which is graduating this June! Aaaaahhhhhh!  I have an amazing husband who is in the Woodworking and Antique business (yes I have access to lots of fun stuff!!) oh, and he was an Army Helicopter Pilot.  We have two dogs...one is an Anatolian Shepherd....we love BIG dogs and I guess we must love lots of shedding hair...not!

I started blogging after reading a book by Max Lucado called Cure For The Common Life.  It inspired me to do something I've wanted to do for a long time and ignore any fears I had associated with it. (I'm usually a private person.)  So I jumped in with both feet and I'm loving it!

Funny thing happened along the way.....I found a new love...photography.  Lately I've been doing more picture taking, then home projects.  I'm trying to sprinkle those in here and there but then I realized this thing called blogging can be anything I want it to be....who'd of thunk?! LOL So now I don't stress so much about what this blog is "supposed" to be.  I'm just letting it evolve into whatever "it" wants to be. :) Some of my favorite photos.

The following are pictures from my yard.

When I'm not blogging, taking pictures or doing family stuff, I love to putter in my garden and my home.  I'm always moving things around..."shopping" in other rooms of my home (or when I'm lucky, the Antique Warehouse, wink wink) or styling my yard.  Puttering around my house...styling.  

When it comes to home decor I love lots of different styles. I like Coastal Cottage, New Traditional, Farmhouse Modern and everything in between.  Let's face it...I just love being surrounded by pretty things....and if it has bling well that's even better! I'd love to share with you some of my projects.

This picture actually captures three of my projects...sliding French Doors, Tongue and Groove ceiling and a peak at my Annie Sloan Armoire.

'Coastal' Summer Mantel 2014

I wanted to thank all of you who left me sweet 'early' birthday wishes!  I'm turning 47 tomorrow and plan to spend part of the day at one of my favorite places, our local flea market!

Now that it's officially summer, my favorite time of year, I've switched our mantel to lighter summery look.

This summer one kind of took on a subtle beachy/coastal theme without my intention!

I kept the silver candelabra here and added an ironstone pitcher that was my grandma's...

You can never have too many ironstone pitchers, in my opinion (or ironstone anything, for that matter!)

I brought back the chippy door/board from my dear friend Kris (Junk Chic Cottage) as a backdrop, and hung on it a thick twig wreath...

...then placed under the wreath a couple pieces of weathered driftwood that I had stored in the basement.

I kept the silver monogrammed urn (which last time several of you said the 'P' should stand for 'pretty'!  I like that idea!)
I had filled it with 'moss' and eggs for Easter and I liked the look, so I just replaced the colorful eggs with neutral ones and left it.

Lastly I added a tall white lantern that I purchased at a home store/boutique with a gift card I got for Christmas.

Inside the lantern I placed a chippy wooden candleholder and candle.

I left my burlap banner up...and that completes my new summer mantel!

As always, I kept it simple.

But I like the sort of whitewashed, beachy vibe that it gives.

I think that it's calm and soothing. (And makes me wish that I was on a real beach! Sigh.)
