Hi, everyone! Today I'm going to show you a room that I've never shown on my blog before!
We have a small room upstairs that I've used sporadically as my studio for making jewelry and as a 'reading room'...when it's not used as a dumping ground, that is! I don't know if you have a room like that...the one that you toss things into when company is coming or where you just throw things that you don't know where to put yet...then it turns into a hoarders haven! Well, it had gotten really bad again, so I finally decided to clean it up.
These are the 2 pieces that this room started with...a big 'chair and a half' that's great for lounging and reading (it's got a red floral pattern so I covered it with a white chenille bedspread) and an old weathered barn wood trunk used as a 'coffee table'...
I decided to do an experiment of sorts, and go in a totally different direction from my normal neutral color palette.
It all started with this...
Remember this blue wooden tray that I got a couple of months ago? The first blue thing I ever bought! (I posted about it here.) I used it as a starting point and began adding more 'blue' to this room. This is a first, and quite a big change for me!
I lined the tray with a piece of grain sack, then added some blue-colored decorating books, a chippy watering can and some fabric pumpkins that I got at an antique mall (one on an old first-aid box)...
Then I added some blue pillows to the chair. My mom gave me the smaller ticking one, the Postes one I just bought on my trip to Columbus (I posted about it here), and the large one is a pillow that I already had-I just covered it with a piece of ticking fabric and pinned it in the back. How's that for a simple DIY project? :)
I just found this blue shutter-perfect for the small wall space beside the chair. I hung a grapevine wreath with a strip of ticking from it.
As you can see, behind the chair is a great blank canvas of wall space! I'm just waiting to find something fabulous or to get an inspired idea for it. I've got some thoughts, but not quite sure yet.
I bought the little 'bus' sign last week at my friend Lori's shop, and set it in the window.
Well, that's the first part of this little room reveal! What do you think of my 'blue room' experiment so far? It's very different for me, but I'm liking the change-for now. ;)
I've got lots more to show you in here, so stay tuned!
Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a wonderful day!

Blue and white has to be a favorite of mine...I never get tired of it. To me, blue is a neutral because it goes with everything, okay maybe neutral is the wrong word. But I love the touches of blue you've been experimenting with, Susan.

What a lovely room to sit and read or blog. You added subtle blues, so everything fits with your usual color palette.
ReplyDeleteLovely room. Blue and white is so clean and fresh looking. Love the blue shutter with the wreath. Such a lovely addition on a small wall and fits perfectly being next to a window.
ReplyDeleteI like it. Blue is my favorite accent color.
ReplyDeleteIt's so pretty - and you know I love the blue accents!
ReplyDeleteSusan,
ReplyDeleteI love how this room is came out. So beautiful and yep the neutral girl here is saying yes yes yes to the blue. It looks so great. Love it. I love it. Great job my friend.

I love this space. I have a office that is the same way. Half office, half dump the clutter. I am inspired now to do something with it. I have been on a week off of the blog world due to lots of time with my Londyn this week. Feels good to catch up. I also only lasted ten days with our new puppy and decided the timing wasnt right. While I was sad to give Porter up it was the best choice for me. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI think I love your corner a lot!
ReplyDeleteI adore blues in your home (i love blue at all), and that shutter is a real great find, and so cheap!!!
Thank you for your kind comment.

Up until a few years ago, I have always had some sort of blue. I decided to "back off" for a while...and low and behold, I see it showing up everywhere! I love the softness of your blue with the whites and grays....It's quite a happy and soothing color! Blessings~~~Roxie
ReplyDeleteWhat? This is your "hoarder's" room? It looks so calm and tranquil. Would love spending my lazy days in there! The shutter and the try are the perfect shade of gray-blue!
ReplyDeleteOh, trust me, Khammany-I didn't show the rest of the room before I cleaned it up. You literally could hardly walk in there for all the stuff on the floor! Just keepin' it real :)
DeleteLove it! The pretty bits of blue go so nicely with all your neutrals. I love the big comfy chair and now I'm kicking myself for not buying a white chenille throw at a recent vintage sale. It would have been perfect for an ugly but comfy chair in our basement TV area. I'll have to keep looking.
ReplyDeleteI love your room! The soft blues are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me think of the coast. Guess it is the blue!!
ReplyDeleteit looks awesome so far, susan! the blue vintage tray is so my favorite! adorable pillows and pumpkins!
ReplyDeleteYou can never go wrong with blue & white! It's timeless and your room is off to a good start, Susan!
ReplyDeleteWith the pale blues, it still is very neutral & restful to my eye. Looks wonderful! Mary
ReplyDeleteSo very pretty Susan...and t think it all started with that beautiful blue box....such a serene place to enjoy and great book, a cup of tea and create!...anxious to see Part II....
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!!! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the pretty blue details! Ticking stripe is always a favorite with me.
ReplyDeleteLovely! I like the direction you're going in. It's fun to stray from our normal decorating styles once in awhile, right? The blue theme is soft and looks great. Looking forward to part 2.
ReplyDeleteI love everything about this little seating area. That watering can!
ReplyDeleteLooks stunning I usually steer away from blue but this really does look good-love dee x
ReplyDeleteI love it!! I think blue is a great color to put with white. Loving that water can!

ReplyDeleteWhat's not to love about it? I can already see what a cozy space you've created. I have two rooms like this that are in need of a major overhaul. I don't know where to begin. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThe room looks so inviting! Fabulous use of blue!
ReplyDeleteI want that pillow with the German writing.....Goettingen....been there many times...LOVE IT!!!
ReplyDeleteI really like blue, especially the soft, faded blue with natural anything. Funny thing, though, I always admire it, but have zero blue in my decor. I like what you've done, ever so subtle.
ReplyDeleteI think your room is delightful. Blue and white is such a pretty combination, and always looks welcoming. I like what you did with the shutter, your pillows, and everything else. It looks like a place I'd like to spend some time in. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteI love it so much. I like the soft shade of blue you're using with all of the cream. So pretty! Love those cute little fabric pumpkins and adorable pillows. And the trunk.........don't get me started!
ReplyDeleteStill YOU in blue! I love it, and all your finds are working together so harmoniously...it is meant to be! :)
