The Living Room Finale

Hi, everyone!

I hope that your Easter weekend was blessed!

I've been showing you my living room and the changes that I've made.

In my last post here, I showed you my new coffee table vignette...

...and also the new vignette on the table in the corner...

I've already shown you our newly painted tv armoire...

...and the area between the couch and loveseat...

And now I'm finally showing you one last small area of my living room.

This little piece of furniture is still one of my favorite finds.  No one has been able to tell me what it was intended for, but I love its size, patina, and unusual storage compartments.  (The bottom two 'doors' are hinged.)

It fits perfectly into a little niche beside the fireplace.

I created a new vignette on top of it starting with a silver tray, then I added a Santos doll (which Keith thinks is creepy but I love!) Next I added a chippy architectural candlestick, and then a small floral in an urn-type pot.

I kept the clock face hanging on the chicken wire window frame, and the French sign hung above the window.

And that completes the living room tour!

I hope that you enjoyed!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Have a fantastic day! :)

  1. In older homes, they often had cupboards like your cabinet...they hindged for potatoes, onions....that type of thing.....my neighbor had 2 together in her Victorian home. I can't remember if hers had drawers....but if it about the same size as bottom cupboards, that might be what it is.

  11. Susan,
Your redo is refreshing and pretty. Your're very gifted at styling and designing vignettes and inviting rooms. Perhaps the mystery piece was once used in a kitchen ... Is that second hinged door fronted with a screen? Beautiful peaceful feel to your room.

  14. I always enjoy seeing changes that you make to your home. I love the little chippy table you're using. I like your Santos doll too. I have one in my master bathroom by the tub. She moves around a lot. That's funny that your husband thinks she's creepy. I can understand that. My husband doesn't understand much about the nitty gritty part of home decor either. He just cares about the flooring, paint colors etc. The big stuff.

  18. Susan it all looks awesome. Love your new living room. So pretty and comfy. That cabinet looks like an old farmhouse veggie cabinet or bin. They would put onions, potatoes, etc. in the hinged drawers. All is fab!

  25. Love it, Susan! I laughed when you said that Keith finds the Santos doll creepy. I thought the same thing when I first saw it, and had never seen anything like it. He's growing on me though. I had to look up to see more about Santos dolls. Pretty fascinating.

  29. I looked at your pictures – they are very pretty. I read that you have a 1929 Colonial in Ohio – is this Colonial type? There is a lot of white and also I noticed many French written items. Yesterday we visited an antebellum mansion near Atlanta – they used quite a lot of colors in those day. Is so much white a new American style? as I have not seen it in France. My father went to the auction house in Paris all the time so our home was filled with antiques, furniture and carpets. Growing up in France I never saw the type of décor you show (never anything written in French!) I think American décor is quite different, and I guess it is also different depending on the state. Last time I went home I brought a cushion purchased here that said “home” (in English) and my French cousin loved it!

  31. Oh dear junky Girl Friend, there's not a thing I don't love... Love the armorie with the cute bun feet I am in hopes to recreate one upstyling one I have in dark woods, leather nail head doors that I hope to aged it so it takes on that French weathered worn feel.
It too has bun feet, it was never a favorit foot for me, yet with two other pieces in my home with these feet I am beginning to be very fond of their cottage French farmhouse feel.

Your room looks like a page out of JDA.... Jeanne d Arc living magazine :)
