Hi, everyone! With our dark floors and some dark furniture, our first floor sometimes seems kinda...well, dark.
I've been craving a lighter look. I started with our mantel, which I showed you here. Then I created a new lighter vignette beside the fireplace, which I showed you in my last post.
Next I changed some things around in our big front hallway.
This little area is right outside of our office and it looked like this at Christmastime...
...and like this before that...
First I replaced the dark shelves with this small chippy white table. I got it for a steal in the fall at an antique shop while visiting Amish country. I wasn't sure where I was going to use it, but it was too cute to pass up!
For the top of the table I 'stole' a huge antique metal dough bowl from my shop and filled it with dried hydrangeas. (I have to credit my mom-she displayed it like this at the shop and I was smitten and had to bring it home!)
This bowl has the best rusty patina!
On the bottom shelf I placed a heavy wire basket that I got in the summer at the flea market. The dealer who sold it to me said it's very old. I just love that crimped wire!
I'll be adding more magazines to it.
I brought my dress form over from the corner it had been in, and placed it beside the table. I attached the feather wings to it that I had on my Christmas tree, which you can see here.
I also moved my huge clock from where it was to this wall.
There was already a nail higher on the wall from before so I took advantage and added another clock face to echo the large one. This is just a little different configuration of how it was before in the living room, here.
So what do you think of my new lighter area?
Here is a view toward the living room.
I feel that this does brighten up the hall a bit.
So, mission accomplished! I'll be showing you some more changes soon.
Thanks for stopping by! Have a great day :)

ReplyDeleteYour chippy white table is wonderful and so is your new lighter look.
ReplyDeleteI like this a lot.
ReplyDeleteWhite furniture really is key to lightening up, isn't it? I do love a little "real wood" mixed in for contrast, but if I had to choose, I would go with white for the simple, light, timeless look. Your style always gets me, Susan!
ReplyDeleteDesign on a dime at its best! Love repurposing items from other rooms to create new vignettes and spaces. Looks great - thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove this vignette. The hydrangeas and the bowl are gorgeous. I love seeing that dress form.

I just love that antique metal dough bowl and oh my, you've created such a lovely vignette, it's perfect!
ReplyDeleteThe lighting is different at different times of the year so it's nice to change things around from season to season. You have such a beautiful home! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI want that metal dough bowl, you torture me with your great finds/pieces!!!! Do more torture please! Just kidding I like the lighter table too. I love the dried hydrangeas and am looking at mine right now!
ReplyDeleteSo bright, cheery...and perfectly "placed" :)
ReplyDeleteWell, you can't go wrong! But I love your new arrangement. I'm always amazed at the difference white makes. Perfect little chippy table!
ReplyDeleteI love it, Susan...really does lighten up the space! Lovely! I am really feeling the need to brighten things up, too!
ReplyDeleteSusan, it looks great! Love the table and the large bowl is fabulous! My little (almost 4) year old grandson looked at my dried Hydrangeas the other day and said, "Grammy these flowers are rere, rere old". That's how he says really. He made me laugh!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann

Very pretty Susan! I love wire baskets too! And hydrangeas are my absolute favorite. I transplanted 6 bushes this past year, I hoping they live. I changed my blog URL, I hope you'll come and join me at my new place. Thanks Susan,
