Living Room Showcase

Hope you all had a great weekend!  Besides being Father's Day, yesterday was also my dad's birthday, so we took him out and had a nice day.
I haven't showed you my living room in awhile, so I thought I'd share a few pictures of it to refresh your memory.

I got this old drawer unit at a garage sale many years ago.  It was buried in my basement and I had forgotten about it.  When I was trying to think of something functional to put beside the couch, I suddenly remembered it! It's perfect to hold our remotes, coasters, etc. I love the quirkiness of the one drawer that's been stripped!

My hubby stenciled this factory cart with my favorite number 3 and our birth year on top when I was out of town a couple years ago, as a surprise for me. So sweet!

He also surprised me another time with this bottle carrier.   I'm thrilled that my seltzer bottle collection fits in it perfectly!

Actually, now that I think about it, he grabbed up this street sign (over the patio doors) at the Randolph flea market in Chicago last year when we had gone separate ways for a bit.  Does he know how to find 'good junk' or what? :)

My mom found this old barnwood shelving unit for me when I was searching for something to put on this wall. I love its simple, rustic charm.  I've changed it around quite a few times, but this is what  it currently looks like.

I gathered up some of my favorite things to display on these shelves.

My friend Carol stenciled this basket-love it!

So there you have it-one side of my living room, at least.  The mantel is on the opposite wall and I've changed it up again (big surprise!) so I'll be sharing that soon.  Have a fantastic day!

  1. My number is 4 for a myriad of reasons. I love to read that someone else feels attached to a number! Father's Day was also a family birthday as well, my granddaughter turned 14! You have a lovely room and that chest of drawers fits like a glove!

  4. The suitcase on the shelving unit looks like it's smiling (latches are eyes, handle is the mouth). I covet the map over the couch!

  5. My eye immediately went to that cubby you retrieved from your basement. Tried to pin it but wasn't able for some reason. I always love your vignettes!!! And lucky you to have such great "pickers" in your own family.

  11. I have always loved this room! I like the industrial charm that it has. The large map on the wall, the trolley coffee table, the feedsack pillows, the mail bin holding more pillows and the lamp hanging on the wall are all what I love about it! Don't remove that map! I think it MAKES the room.

  25. Thank you Susan for taking the time to visit my Junk ! :)
Blogging lends the opportunity to inspire one another and visiting you does just that. I see so many pieces I would love to add to the displays in my home, your patina and tone on tone feels like my home. I was thinking I could really just move my pieces into your home with a perfect blend, did you feel that same feeling?

Looking forward to what next you will be inspiring.

  58. This is very practical putting the drawer next to the sofa. I also have one hamper in my living room where I store the books and magazines I usually read when relaxing on the sofa. I am thinking of getting a coffee table with a shelf to put some more magazines and newspapers there.
